Community Resources

As a trans masculine individual, I understand the importance of having access to support and resources. Here’s a curated list of organizations, hotlines, and support groups that can offer assistance:

Crisis Hotlines

A crisis hotline is a free, confidential service that offers support to people in emotional distress. Trained counselors offer a safe space to talk, listen, and help with issues like mental health, discrimination, or identity struggles. Some are even available 24/7, so you can call or text whenever you need support or guidance.

  • Trans Lifeline: 1-877-565-8860 (US) / 1-877-330-6366 (Canada)
    • Peer support service run by trans people, for trans and questioning callers
    • No non-consensual active rescue (I.e. calling emergency services)

    • As of Jan. 1, 2024, the operating hours are Monday-Friday from 1:00 pm-9:00 pm EST, with plans to re-open weekend service.
  • The Trevor Project: 1-866-488-7386
    • Crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LGBTQIA+ youth under 25.
    • Counselors available 24/7, 365 days a year
    • Also offers text (text START to 678-678) and chat services here.
  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Dial 988 or 1-800-273-8255
    • 24/7 support for anyone in suicidal crisis or experiencing emotional distress.
    • Trained crisis counselors listen, give support, and connect callers to resources when appropriate.
    • When calling, press “3” to be connected to a crisis counselor specifically trained in supporting LGBTQIA+ callers.
    • Supports over 240 languages through a tele-interpreters service
    • Also offers text, chat, and hard of hearing services.

General Resources for FTM/Transmasculine Folks

  • Trans Guy Supply– offers a curated collection of essentials for trans men, featuring binders, STPs, packers, packing gear, apparel, and grooming products. Their clothing selection includes tops, bottoms, swimwear, and accessories like water bottles, hats, and towels, with sizes ranging from XS to 4XL. Their grooming products cover everything from nail polish and scar cream to shot gear and shaving accessories. They also offer a binder exchange program and host a youth packer giveaway. Additionally, their blog provides helpful articles and tips on transitioning, self-care, and living confidently as your authentic self.
  • Black Transmen, Inc.– an organization dedicated to empowering Black trans men through their signature EmpowerHIM program, which offers mentoring, access to resources, and financial assistance to support healthy transitions and leadership development. Their mission is to promote equality for Black trans men through mentoring, advocacy, and fundraising initiatives. BTMI provides a bi-monthly support group, a free binder program for those 16 and older, and a $1,000 top surgery scholarship for those 18 and up. They also offer a local resource guide covering trans-specific education, health, housing, legal aid, and support services across 10 states: WA, CA, OR, TX, CO, KS, TN, VA, MD, and PA. While they have previously hosted an annual summit in Dallas, TX, the most recent event was in April 2023, and future updates are pending. BTMI also offers a membership program for Black trans men aged 13 and older, though specific details about membership benefits are unclear.
  • Healthline: Transmasculine Sexual Health– a different type of resource; this Healthline article addresses important and often misunderstood aspects of transgender men’s sexual health, including topics like ejaculation, orgasms, and the impact of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It also covers practical questions, such as whether trans men can pee standing up or father a child. With a focus on medical insights and advice for advocating for trans-specific healthcare, the article is an informative resource for trans men looking to understand their sexual health and well-being.   • THT Sexual Health– This page from the Terrence Higgins Trust, a UK-based charity, is an excellent resource for transmasculine individuals seeking information on sexual health. It offers accessible, evidence-based articles covering topics like navigating sex as a transmasculine person, safe sex practices, using PrEP and PEP, STI testing, and living with HIV as a trans man. Highly recommended for anyone looking to improve their sexual health knowledge and care!
  • Trans Guys– touted as “the internet’s magazine for trans men”, is a comprehensive site offering a wide range of resources for the transmasculine community. It features articles on health, fitness, style, music, and more, along with polls, surveys, surgery forums, and book/product reviews. The site includes a shop that sells packers (including STPs), packing underwear and straps, pumps, and binders. Additionally, there’s a section for contests and giveaways with prizes like STPs, packers, and books, though the frequency of updates may vary.
